Bank on My Terms

The Art of BankCraft™

What’s the protocol?

A simple question that can bring order to a complicated banking situation.

The Idea

What is a BankCraft Protocol?

A BankCraft Protocol is a repeatable way of managing a banking situation — what to check, what to do, how to do it, and what to watch for.

Banking does not always give you a straight line from Point A to Point B. One institution may not connect to another. A transfer limit may block the route you expected to use. A high advertised rate may come with requirements hidden behind the shiny number. An institution may suddenly want to know why money came in and then went somewhere else.

A protocol gives you a way to handle that situation without starting over from scratch every time.

Protocols are how BankCraft gets done.

BankCraft Protocols are the music score for your Financial Symphony.

The Financial Symphony

The protocol is the music score.

A Financial Symphony can contain several institutions, and they will not all behave the same way. One may pay the best rate. Another may move money better. Another may accept cash. Another may connect to institutions that refuse to connect directly with each other.

The protocol helps you manage those differences.

If the direct route does not work, you find another route. If one institution cannot push the money, maybe another can pull it. If two institutions cannot talk to each other, you may need a Bridge between them.

The goal is not to force every institution to work the same way. The goal is to know how to use what each one does well and still get the job done.

BankCraft Protocols bring order to chaos.

Where Protocols Come From

The lesson comes first.

A protocol is not meant to replace understanding.

In the BankCraft Classroom, we dig into the situation itself. We may look at push versus pull, ACH limits, transfer holds, APY qualifications, promotional rates, mobile banking, cash access, account lockouts, or the way several institutions can be connected together.

That is where we explain what is happening, why it happens, what choices you have, and what we have learned by actually dealing with it.

Then we boil that lesson down.

The BankCraft Protocol is the intense overview of the lesson.

It is the part you can remember later when you are sitting in front of a transfer screen, evaluating a new account, dealing with a problem, or trying to figure out how to get money from one institution to another.

Protocols in Action

Learn the situation. Remember the protocol.

Each relevant BankCraft Classroom lesson can end with a short BankCraft Protocol — the practical operating rule that comes out of what you just learned.

If you later run into that situation again, you do not have to remember every paragraph of the lesson.

You remember the protocol.

BankCraft Protocol: The Direct Deposit Protocol

Never move your direct deposit first. Open the account, fund it, test it, and make sure it works before trusting it with your income.

That is a BankCraft Protocol: a precise operating rule you can remember when the situation comes up again.

And if you need the details again, come back to the Classroom lesson and walk through the full explanation.

See BankCraft Protocols in action.

The BankCraft Classroom is where we break down the banking situations, explain what is happening, and turn what we learn into repeatable ways of handling them.
